The Lighting Lunch 2026

Welcome to ALPD Events which has been created to manage special events for ALPD members and the lighting community, especially the annual Lighting Lunch.

The Lighting Lunch  was founded by ALPD Deputy Chair, Mark Jonathan and first took place at the National Theatre in 1993.  Initially a small event, it grew quickly and since 2003 has had various ‘homes’.  Most recently we have been at the Phoenix Arts Club and it has become very crowded and so it is time to move again.

This year the Lighting Lunch will take place on Monday 14th December at Glyndebourne.

The revamped lunch offers a wonderful day out, managed by the ALPD and Glyndebourne. We are moving back to lunch with table service; please see the menu below. Lunch will be preceded by morning coffee, tea and biscuits at 11.30 am followed by a tour of the splendid opera house including the famous organ room. Lunch will be served around 1.30 pm.

Participants coming from London could get the first off-peak train that leaves London Victoria at 09.54 am to Lewes and return on the 4.55 pm. or 5.25 pm train. We will arrange for a coach to collect people to and from Lewes Station. Alternatively, guests can drive and park at Glyndebourne.

Please Sponsor!

We are immensely grateful to the companies who have already committed sponsorship. But we would welcome some more: this enables us to keep the price as accessible to all as we can. If you would like to sponsor please contact Admin@ALPDevents.co.uk

“For me, one of the highlights of the Lighting Lunch is to look out at the crowd who come and realise that we have brought together students through to people who had spent their entire lives in lighting; from the shop floor to the board room, lighting technicians, programmers, LDs, manufacturers, sales, PR, agents and hire companies.
This is only made possible by the generous contributions we get from our wonderful sponsors, who make the event accessible to all “

Mark Jonathan

The lunch will be in Glyndebourne’s Mildmay restaurant, which seats 170 guests, on the 14th December.

Tickets are on sale now. Go to Event Tickets to purchase yours. We also ask that as soon as you can you visit the registration page and fill out a form for each of your guests. This will ensure we have the details needed for the restaurant and for your travel arrangements. Thanks to our sponsors the price is just £50.

If you would be able to commit to joining the team of companies sponsoring this event, please email us on admin@alpdevents.co.uk
